Center of the universe, the flat earth
Now just the third rock from the sun
Circling a lesser star, a miniscule dot
In the grand scheme of the universe
Brave few had the courage to defend the truth
Challenging the defenders of the faith
The self-proclaimed righteous and the powerful
Those who used the book to stigmatize
And burn women as witches at the stakes
Generations enslaved bear testimony to
Disastrous brutality of misinterpreted truth
Lies proclaimed as gospel shouted
At the top of their voices from the bully pulpits
Their progenies at it again to curtail rights
Progress achieved by sacrifices of many
Courage in adversity shown by a brave few
In danger of being obliterated by pretentious few
Those who take things for granted
Complacency is a greater sin than lies spewed
Progress delayed is progress denied
People crying wolf must be challenged
Dark, long nights of winter will end
Sun will pierce the dark, thunder clouds
Hibernation is for bears
It’s for man to stand up and fight
