The Road to Happiness

Why despair
The road to happiness
Passes through the valley of sorrow
Once you are down
Only way to go is up
On this temporal journey
Of perpetual impermanence
Setbacks are just small road bumps
Accept, do not resign
Regroup, do not retreat
And when you reach the peak
Clutch the sunlight
Fill your heart with joy
To last a few lifetime

Poetry is my passion. I am not a methodical writer. I have no set topics to write about. What I feel, perceive, think about, I will like to share in this blog. I open my mind to the world. Like the weather, sometimes my poems are cloudy, sometimes stormy. I always like to see sunshine streaming through the leaves of trees, so I hope I can share some of those sunshine with my readers.

    1. This poem was inspired by a interview in KQED Forum hosted by Michael Krasny with author Doug Abrams where they were discussing about the Book of Joy and interaction of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India during Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday. Unfortunately, it was during my drive to office, so I did not catch the opening and did not hear the ending. Whatever I could remember from the middle, I penned my poem with that.
