Away, come away:
Empty your heart of its mortal dream.’ – W.B.Yeats
Seducing me at every step
From the moment of grand entrance
Alluring mistress are you
Promising to keep me company
Till death do us part
I fell into your trap many a times
Weak of mind in moments such
Seduction irresistible to come away with you
Dreams of afterlife, mysterious unknown beckoned
How must you be disappointed with my betrayal
But my sensuous mistress you did know
I have promised myself to someone else
To life, with all the sufferings and pain
I have promised my heart and soul
And when the time comes, as promised
I will leave this body to you
Till death do us part
My mistress
You are no mystery to me
I embrace you with open arms
Death, my eternal mistress
Let me go away on my terms
This poem is in response to Jane Dougherty’s A Month (November) with Yeats Challenge day Thirteen
Lovely poem!

This is a deep one. You present the darkest, most troubling aspect of life (death) in such a tender and gentle way.

When I was barely four years old, my maternal grandfather (he was a Sanskrit scholar)read me stories from Indian epic Mahabharata. In one of the stories, god of the underworld ( and he was the god of truth / dharma also) asks King Yudhisthira what is the most surprising thing in the world. Yudhisthira replied that the most surprising thing is that all around us dead people are being taken to the crematorium continuously but we think that we are going to live for ever. From my childhood, I was fascinated with death but never afraid of death.

It seems we would rather place our hopes in a hypothetical wonderland for dead people than in the beautiful world we know that we have.

Unless someone comes back from the other side and tells about it, afterlife is just a story for me. Have not seen a ghost yet. I will take what I have now.

That would be giving proof. God doesn’t do that. No proof. You just have to believe.

That is in short supply now a days. 😣

Belief? People will believe anything if you say it loud and often enough.

Like the 5.5 daily lies of POTUS?

If you believe the one about God and the fake fossils, the POTUS’ utterances come down on the reasonable side 🙂

When I see all the fossilized leaders, I do tend towards believing the Neanderthals propagating that theory. They never evolved.☺
