Oh the joy of finding the long lost
Seperated by distance and time, and
The complexities of a journey called life
We drifted apart from the common bond
Bond that withstood years of silent absence
Strained and tenuous, feeble but still burning
Faint ray of hope one day we shall again meet
And revisit those boisterous days of youth
Days where we used to shoot the air
On top of the world without any fear
Laughing out loud and crying together
Feelings pure and simple and in the open
No need for any emogies to show emotions
We would hug each other and hold hands
Walking the streets without being judged
A knock on the door to enter was superfluous
Days and nights merged seamlessly
As we thrived and struggled together
Those adolescent years we transitioned
Suddenly one day, our mission accomplished
Said goodbye and moved out of each other’s life
Best part of life was over without realizing
A new journey, a new beginning
Entered a phase of life called working
A phase of servitude and responsibilities
Slowly driving us apart from those so dear
Before we knew it was past many years
How time has changed and left its scars
Unfathomable distance torn us apart
Technology has bridged the distance
But time has taken its toll
We now send a heart emogy to show love
A smiley face to say that we laugh
Somewhere down there the string has frayed
Fingers hesitate to press the phone keys, afraid
Are we going to disturb someone’s privacy, we
Send a message that lack intimacy
Still have hope that when we meet
Will be able to turn back the years
The fire still burns, heart still desires
But somehow a hesitancy, a little fear
Of being rejected, snubbed altogether
Oh, the joy of finding long lost friends
Clouded by, pray, undue apprehension
Beautiful poem, heart-felt. It exudes authenticity, sensuality and great emotional intensity. I like how you interconnect the different themes: love, distance, fear of rejection and the role of today’s modern technologies. Love it!
