A small price to pay

A tongue in cheek look at the fear spread by COVID-19. No intention of hurting anyone’s sensitivity.,🙏

My nose twist and tinge

But I am afraid

To sneeze

What will people say

I squirm

Shift my weight

From one leg to the other

A dead silence

All around me

The circle of

Social distance enlarge

See few people with

Phones to their ears

Somewhere in the distance

Wails an ambulance siren

The thought of being

Quarantined

Races through my

Distressed mind

I try to shout

Guys, I am all right

But fear dries my throat

I feel a cough

Coming up my esophagus

Esophagus, is that right

But who cares

As I fight valiantly

To suppress my cough

My body reacts

A bodily function

So innocuous

Comes to my rescue

With a sound thunderous

An act performed in public

That would have mortified

Even the bravest soul

Brought a sigh of relief

To everyone all around

And I moved on

Thankful to the

Fabulous Air Recirculating Technique

That my body performed

Banishing the fear

Of imminent infection

Of Corona virus

From one and all

Relieved, everyone on

His or her way

The malodorous smell

A small price to pay

Poetry is my passion. I am not a methodical writer. I have no set topics to write about. What I feel, perceive, think about, I will like to share in this blog. I open my mind to the world. Like the weather, sometimes my poems are cloudy, sometimes stormy. I always like to see sunshine streaming through the leaves of trees, so I hope I can share some of those sunshine with my readers.

  1. If anyone was close enough to notice they were too close 🙂
You’re right, there is no point in giving way to psychosis. What we need are the German test kits. Nobody dies in Germany. But they’re keeping them for Germans only. Maybe they can’t produce more than they need?

    1. 😀😀😀 hypersensitivity enhances one’s vision (or suspicion).

Yes, both Germany and Netherlands are managing well.
USA may soon surpass China because of the wrongheaded approach of prioritizing economic health to citizens health.
As the Indian PM said, “Jaan Hain. To Jahan Hain” – country is there if life is there.

      1. Number of unemployment claims are rising sharply.
Full impact of this pandemic will be felt for quite sometime even after a vaccine is found.

      2. But if your national philosophy is based on every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost/God will provide etc etc and if a social safety net, solidarity and a sharing of resources is anathema, how can you excect anything different? I heard that sales of guns have skyrocketed. Now that doesn’t surprise me either, being the kind of response I’d expect in the land of God helps those who help themselves.

      3. Very true words, Pranab. I love your poem. Tears are coming to my eyes. Stay well and safe, my friend. Some countries are gonna have it harder than others and I think you and I live in the worst places. Strengthen your immune system, get exercise, eat healthy and do not let fear take hold of you. No surrender.

      4. 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks Marta.
        Doing everything you suggested.
We can do only what we can do.
Can’t let fear rule our daily life.
        Stay safe Marta.
        And laugh and smile.

    2. The Germans die, but they die much less than people living in Catalonia like me, and other parts of Spain. And why? Because the Germans took more preventions than the stupid Spanish government from the very beginning. To hell with the “so called” Spanish pride. No pride letting people die! 😞

      1. I don’t believe in that ‘national pride’ rubbish. Myths don’t save people. Yes, it’s all a question of priorities, and if health care hasn’t been top of the list or even close, it can’t be rectified in the twinkling of an eye.

    3. And also because the Germans did not do the massive cuttings in the health care system the Spanish government did during the “so called” 2008 crisis, which was nothing other than a massive fraud to the whole of the population, especially to the poorest and most vulnerable. Instead, the banks were rescued. Sorry, but I am sad, sad, sad and so enraged. 😆

      1. The banks always come first. Not that people’s savings are ever protected. Just the banks themselves. I can understand your anger. I want to know why huge dividends are being paid out to shareholders while the state (the taxpayers) is shelling out billions to try and stave off an economic disaster. Why isn’t the stock market frozen, to stop crooks profiting from the crisis, and force healthy businesses to contribute to the effort rather than handing out millions to their shareholders?

    4. Yes, the Germans have the test kids where I read 69% of the population has been tested whereas in Spain just the seriously ill, 5%. Shame, shame and shame on the Spanish government!!

      1. I think we’ll wait a long time before the taxes on the hyper rich are increased to help pay for all this. Not just in Spain either. The health services all over Europe are under-funded but the taxes on the top few percent have been reduced ‘to encourage investment’—which doesn’t ever materialise.
