for a promise of safety tomorrow
given up our freedom to be happy today
couching our cowardice as god’s will
in silence of thought we seek redemption
spines turned to jelly in submission
we dream of the day of judgement
of standing erect with sins forgiven
foolish are we to think that our deeds
to please the tyrants will go unnoticed
we, who have lulled ourselves to sleep
with our acquiescence to deed of servitude
feel betrayed with neither safety nor salvation
and peace remained a pipe dream, oblivion
Your peace apparently remains in oblivion. I content with mine.

As I said, it will take bravery to say there can be no going back to what we did ‘before’, not ethically, because it’s not what people want to hear. As you say, we’ll sing hosannas to the great leaders and beg them to start the infernal machine again. We may not answer for our sins but our children will.

That our children will pay for our sins is the sad part.

If we back down and let the financiers and business leaders have their way…

Backing down is an option that no sane people will entertain.
However with people just accepting the status quo out of fatigue is what may happen and the moneybags will just bid their time doling out lollipops to the religious gurus to lull the populace into a trance and keep them in line.
Are we the exceptions to the cowardice? Hardly. We hide behind our words.

Yes, you’re right. Words are easy when they’re restricted to preaching to the converted. It’s much harder to speak out when you know you’re going against the mainstream. There’s real contestation going on here. No more bail outs, they’re saying. We did that for the banks in 2008 and they gave nothing in return, just used the money to keep paying huge dividends to their share holders. Never again. Maybe.

How many times we shall say never again?

Probably about as often as we say, have we learned nothing from history?

We neglect history at our own peril.

We’ve been doing that since we were invented. Could explain the state we’re in today.
