The numbers game

The numbers are slowly turning to names,
At first distant, some known for their work,
Some were friends of friends,
Some distant relatives that (I) never met,
The stream is becoming a rivulet, soon may become a deluge,
While the enemy silently runs amock,
Powers to be are busy with their games,
The names are still numbers to them,
Their priorities are askew, they don’t feel the pain,
They fear more losing their grip on power,
Elections and campaigns are their fun,,
Till the names at the end of the numbers are their own,
Oh heaven, why have you opened your floodgate so wide,
Have the lost souls abandoned you,
And you are filling your coffers playing the number game?

The second wave, if one can call it that, of COVID-19 has become rampant in India. Government that had become complacent was caught with its pants down. Everyday news from home carries names of people that I knew. Some I had met, some I wanted to, some I haven’t. This poem is just a cry of anguish.

The rocks will cry out

If we do not rant
If we do not shout
When it matters
When we need to stand up
The rocks will cry out
The rocks will cry out
If we wait, and wait, till
Hell freezes over
And hell fire ravages
Our bleeding hearts
Our bleeding hearts
Ache and pain
From our inaction
While the world burns
In wilderness we mourn
In wilderness we mourn
Mouthing over and over
Never again, never again
While somewhere around the corner
Another plot is being hatched
Another plot is being hatched
To snuff out innocent lives
While we play games with words
Conscience sacrificed at alter of greed, we wait
For the rocks to cry out

WINNING

Winning is everything, it is the name of the game
In competition for fun and not to win is lame
Not willing to compete to win, you are not a man
Nothing matters if you do not win, second best is not the same

Insane are those who sacrifice happiness to win at all cost
Not realizing what they are losing till everything is lost
Glad to compete and win but still be happy even if second best

Winning isn’t everything, it is not the name of the game
Wake up in the morning and happy to start a
Wonderfully warm welcoming worthy day and wishing you the same

Last Request to a Long Lost Friend

Cat and mouse game
I don’t want to play
A long embrace unwanted
So please don’t overstay
My long lost friend
You are neither
Defied nor deified
Invited you are not
But futile to resist
Your inevitable visit
So here is my last request
Don’t make me suffer
A long embrace
Pains of a long
Drawn out goodbye
I will welcome you
With open outstretched hands
Let it be a game of
Instant mortal combat
You the declared winner
I say adios
And depart
Till we meet
Somewhere,
Someplace again
