Red is the color of blood

Four preachers came to the square today,
With followers in tow and scriptures in hands,
They came to spread the message of peace
Preaching peace but hearts full with venomous hate.

With unwavering faith in their scriptures and in supremacy of their creators,
They spoke of harmony but stuck to their own studied faiths,
The city was burning fueled by division, its citizens at risk,
Blind followers’ rants heat up the atmosphere, citizens afraid.

Suddenly what went wrong no one knew, chaos ensued,
Amid pushing and shoving, fisticuffs and stabbings, mayhem reigned,
When the preachers were thrown to the ground, no one saw,
Crushed under the feet of the crowd, they cried out for help, as the stampede grew.

Nurtured back to health with expert treatment and needed blood transfusion,
The preachers prayed to the Lords of their faiths in humble submissions,
Taking the name of their creators constantly, they offered their salutations,
Praising the physicians for their dedication, inquired about those who gave them life with blood donations.

Humbly replied the doctors, serving humanity without division is our religion,
Neither Christians nor Jews, nor Hindus nor Muslims here,
Knew not who donated blood, nor whose blood flow in veins of yours,
Black, white or brown, American, African, Asian or Mexican, unknown were the donors.

Only one thing is certain, an absolute truth, blood has no religion,
The blood that flows in your veins, same flows in everyone’s, that you also know.
It’s neither white nor brown nor black,
Red is the only color of blood.

Lazy Friday Thought

Ever the thought crossed our minds

The one who we seek may be hiding

Fearful of being held responsible

For the chaos that was created

Or maybe a fine tuning is going on

To remove the kinks of imperfection

May be once the agents of division

Take care of themselves fighting each other

Seeking will be unnecessary as atlast

Goodness lives in hearts of all

And the one we seek live in peace

And let us live on peace

In harmony, satisfied on reaching the goal

Woven

Woven into the quilt of our consciousness
Onerous burdens of cultures past
Values hammered and ingrained
Essence of who we really are, lost
Negated by garbage of history

Weaving stories of gods and goddesses
Of gospels passed on as absolute truths
Virtues extolled of mythical heroes
Embellishing divine follies and mischief
Not for mere mortals to divine

Weave we shall a modern tale
Onward in our journey of harmony and peace
Virtues untarnished by divisive forces
Encompassing everyone and love for all
Now is our time to walk proud and tall

Woven:Week Forty of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

Quilts are woven in many cultures for various reasons.  Quilts are colorful, a harmonious cacophony of colors. They tell a story, story of love, story of passion, story of hardship, story of survival and story of rejuvenation. Sadly in the quilt of nations, the harmony of colors is missing.  It is replaced by false vanity of nationality, ethnicity, race, religion, language etc.  From our childhood we are bombarded by stories from our past, our cultures, our mythology. These are woven into the fabric of our everyday existence, so much so that we consider anybody else not sharing the same as aliens. They are not woven into the fabric of the quilt of our existence.

Technology has made the world smaller, brought people much closer. Technology also has made it easier for bigots to spew venom, spread hatred. Isn’t it time for us to weave a new story, a modern story of the human race? A story of hope, a story of all of us coming together, a story of march for justice and peace for all.  If that story can be woven successfully, what a legacy we shall leave for posterity.

With that thought in mind, for week forty of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I chose “Woven” as the starting word for my poem.  Now, my dear readers, it’s time for me to go and finish writing my poem before it is midnight and Wednesday rolls into Thursday.
