Old Rudy’s Poem

” east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet” – Rudyard Kipling

oh, how I wish we
prove these lines wrong and
before the sun rises in the west,
and hell freezes over,
we forget all directions,
of labels there would be none,
of borders, all erased and gone,
we meet as brothers and sisters and
embrace each other only as human;
in the grave crumbles his bones,
as his poem all but forgotten,
except mistakenly the lines we quote;
how would old Rudy smile if
all that divide us are suddenly gone.

Introduction

Wrote this poem in my mother tongue Axomiya (Assamese) first and then translated to English today. Posting it here in the reverse order.

Just asked your name,
My friend,
To get introduced, and
You gave a long list of
Identification;
For me there was
Only one identity of you,
I wanted to build a bridge,
But the high wall of your identity, built by
The long list of
Nationality, ethnicity, language, religion,
Made it a bridge far away;
That you did not include
The color of your skin,
Acknowleging that I am not blind,
Thanks for the small mercy,
Friend of mine.
Au revoīr my friend,
Look me up
If one day you yearn
For company of man,
I shall be here,
The world is my home.
Oh, you never asked my name,
My friend,
May be it is unnecessary to you,
Still, let me introduce myself,
I am human.

নাভাবিলা মই অন্ধ;
পৃথিৱীয়ে মোৰ ঘৰ;

One-Liner Wednesday – Outage Outrage

This post is in response to Linda’s  #1OneLinerWednesday.

The idea for the first one liner was supplied by Linda herself in reply to my comment.  So here it is first, though that’s not what I had in mind.  I will follow up with the one I had in mind.

Went to bed early to avoid (power) outage outrage.

Hiking up the hills, lost in the vastness of nature, it dawned on me that to enjoy nature’s bounty we need caring human hands.
