Wisdom

Wisdom of thought and wisdom of speech
Wisdom of words and wisdom of deed
Wisdom that is learnt and wisdom inborn
Wisdom that make humans reform
Wisdom of age and wisdom of youth
Wisdom keeps us right going forth

Wise is the person learning from life
Wise are those who keep away from strife
Wise one does not need others to teach
Wise person does not unnecessarily preach

Bookish learning is not a pre-requirement for being wise
Observing nature and learning from life can get you the prize
An open mind to analyze and willingness to learn
Will provide the wisdom to be self sufficient and to earn

Remember Aesop’s story of the ants and the grasshopper
All the wisdom to be successful was buried inside there
Listening to the promises of the false prophets of Wall Street
Savings and loan scandal,dot-com bust, housing bubble resulted indeed

Wisdom is not a privilege of age nor a property of the sage
Learning is a lifelong process not bound by a cage
Ivy league education does not guarantee wisdom
Otherwise why  do we have so many political morons

Wisdom comes from learning to slow down and smell the roses
Treating others as you like to be treated and not creating foes
Learning when to open your mouth and what battles to pick
Learning to listen, analyze, understand and practice wisdom in deed

Wisdom will prevent us from being blind followers
Wisdom will guide us to find the true leaders
Wisdom will teach us not to   be bigots
Wisdom will show the path not to be zealots

Wisdom is a gift to cherish that will show us the light
Darkest moment of our life, wisdom will be shining bright

Week 9 of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with “W”

Week 9 of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with “W”

With today’s post I will be completing two months of my yearlong, twelve month, journey. That’s completion of one sixth of my journey, sixteen point six percent or rounded off to seventeen percent. Definitely sounds better than nine out of fifty-two or forty-three weeks more to go. I think that’s what statisticians do, fudge the numbers to make it sound better to get their points across. That’s the same tactics politician adopt, look at the same data set and proclaim that the economy is improving or unemployment is decreasing and the opposition proclaiming that economy is tanking and we are worse off than when they were in power. I am digressing here. Did not want to talk about numbers and statistics but about an inspiring news item I read today.  Yes Virginia, sometimes dog bites man is also news.

I was reading my morning news today, of course in internet, when a headline caught my eyes : ” 5 PhD thesis on this class III – dropout poet”. Poetry being my passion, I was naturally intrigued to read the story beyond this headline and will like to share with you the story of Haldhar Nag.  Mr Nag , born in Indian state of Odisha, had to leave school at a very young age of ten years when his father passed away.  Though he lacked formal education, he did not leave behind learning. Starting his working career as a dishwasher at age ten, he wrote his first poem at age forty and had not looked back since. He was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India, by the President of India on Monday. His literary work will be a part of the curriculum of Sambalpur University in Odisha.  Inspiring story indeed.

When I was reading the story of Mr. Nag, I started thinking about the word for week nine of my journey with the letter “W”. For today, I can not think of any other inspiring word than “Wisdom”.  Does it come with age, experience, learning, bookish knowledge or formal education? Or life itself is the best teacher if we are willing to listen and learn? I don’t have any answer yet nor do I proclaim to have an answer by the time I pen my poem starting with “wisdom”, but I sure do promise to explore.

My Learning Style (The Daily Post) – Day 11-Blogging101

Learning can be fun, learning style varies.

I have a learning style, I never knew why.
Now I have to do an assignment, makes me cry.
Always thought it is fun to learn,
Or was it always learn to earn?
Now that I have to start my assignment in writing,
Need to go back to my earliest beginning. Continue reading “My Learning Style (The Daily Post) – Day 11-Blogging101”

Anniversary coming up

Anniversaries can come in many different forms.

My anniversary is coming up. No, no, not that one. That one is private. This one is the one month anniversary of starting my blog. One month anniversary? Anniversary is supposed to be a yearly event. In today’s world of instant gratification, waiting one year to celebrate an anniversary is too long. By that time attention may drift to something else. Anniversary means need to celebrate some accomplishment. What are the accomplishments of last one month (it’s not yet, two more days to go, but that is another story)? Well, started my blog, joined Blogging University Class 101, completed eight assignments, learnt a lot about blogging and still learning, posted fort five blogs. Whew! But best of all, made so many new friends in the parallel universe of the internet and the way they had opened their hearts to complete strangers by sharing their writing, it’s amazing.
