Don’t Say Love You / নক’বা ভাল পাওঁ বুলি

A poem I wrote today and translated to my mother tongue Axomiya (Assamese)

Hush, don’t say the word,
Love you,
There lies the end;
In forplay of courtship
exuberant eruption,
Intimacy signals the end,
Curtain falls.

In preparation
(anticipation)
lies the beauty of
creation,
In fulfillment,
Resignation.

On the altar of
greater good,
Self immolation,
Proudly we wear the
badge of satisfaction;
Lonely amidst
sea of appreciation,
In silence
we seek
Salvation .

নকবা ভাল পাওঁ বুলি,
সেয়াযে প্ৰেমৰ শেষ পৰিণতি,
শৃঙ্গাৰত সৃষ্টিৰ জ্বালামুখী লাভা,
সঙ্গমত পতনৰ আগজাননী;

গৰ্বেৰে কৰোঁ পৰিধান;
প্ৰশংসাৰ সাগৰত নিঃসঙ্গ,
নীৰৱতাত বিচাৰোঁ পৰিত্ৰাণ।

Peace, a pipe dream

for a promise of safety tomorrow

given up our freedom to be happy today

couching our cowardice as god’s will

in silence of thought we seek redemption

spines turned to jelly in submission

we dream of the day of judgement

of standing erect with sins forgiven

foolish are we to think that our deeds

to please the tyrants will go unnoticed

we, who have lulled ourselves to sleep

with our acquiescence to deed of servitude

feel betrayed with neither safety nor salvation

and peace remained a pipe dream, oblivion

Break the defined boundaries

Defined by boundaries set by self
We suffer in silence having lost our ways,
Seek solace in teachings of gurus and leaders

Who are defined by their own boundaries.

We flounder, exchange stories with fellow travelers
Like lemmings, we trudge along to our destiny,
Mistaking as goals expectations set by others

Aspire to conquer great heights, hope of attaining solace.

Those who get to the top of the artificial goals
Blinded by the darkness at the top try climbing up again,
Others left behind burrows deep seeking a way out

Mortgaging our lives in search of elusive expectations.

Seeking happiness in trinkets of technology, a mad rush for speed
We fail to see the key within our own hearts.
Dancing to the tunes of puppeteers unseen

We have forgotten to stop and seek within.

The power to scale the wall, break down the boundaries
Lies with each one of us if we dare to seek.
Not to conform, not to rebel but be our own

Salvation lies in our hearts, if we dare to slow down.

Not to worry what we have not, not to demean what we have
Proud and content in our uniqueness, compassionate to others,
Breaking the artificial boundaries, armed with newfound vision
Find ourselves, happy, and light the lamp of a new dawn.

Faith, Creation and Creator

Rose is a rose
By any other name
Creator, not sanctioned by
One’s own faith
Why is not the same

Losing our faith
We stopped seeking
Finding solace in miracles
Allowing us to be fooled
By afterlife’s dreams

Lured by promise
Of redeeming our souls
Of a heaven unseen
We sold ourselves
Committing the original sin

Peddlers of faith
Conquered and plundered
In the name of the creator
Rained unspeakable destruction
Offer us salvation

Where did we go wrong
We all of different faith
Enjoy the same creation
But with daggers drawn
Defend our creator’s name

Manipulated by the unscrupulous
Mortgaging our brains
We dance, celebrating division
In our creator’s name
Who says creator not the same

Waiting for Nirvana

Instead of looking into our hearts, we wait for salvation from outside.

Open our hearts
To complete strangers,
Let our emotions flow
Like spirits,
Waiting for nirvana,
Ephemeral salvation,
Remedies to our woes.
Wails fall on deaf ears,
Blame the world.
Afraid to look
Into our hearts,
Lest see ourselves
Drowned in our filth.
Cleansing our hearts,
Difficult.
Venting easy.
