Wandering Soul in Search of the Final Destination

Where shall the travel be?
When time is right,
Revealed shall the answe be.

Arrived at what station?
An unfamiliar place,
After a long journey.

Familiarize with the unfamiliar;
In search of the infinite continuum,
This journey is just the infinitesimal dust particle on the road;

Was this the same path traversed before?
What an absurd question,
Will it address the search unknown?

The water molecule of the flowing river,
Does it return again to the same spot
once it merges in the bosom of the sea?

Does not the water molecule in the sea evaporate and
come back again as raindrop,
To the river’s bosom?

The evaporated particle of water as dew drop,
Dancing on the blade of grass,
Swept away to the river by rain;

Does that dew drop know
it traversed this same path before,
To merge into the bosom of the sea?

What is this new identity,
Know this is not permanent,
Why then is this attachment?

Move on, move on,
This wandering is eternal,
In death the address is not hidden;

Who knows when the search is answered,
Will the quest come to a culmination,
The travel of a wandering soul in search of the final destination?

**translated from a poem I wrote yesterday in my mother tongue Axomiya (Assamese).**

Feelings of the Heart – a ghazal?

I wrote this ghazal in my mother tongue Axomiya (Assamese) yesterday and tried to translate it to Hindi. After a few futile attempts, I gave up as I just could not maintain the rhythm. Today I tried translating it to English and found that it was flowing much more smoothly though I should not call it a ghazal. I tried to follow the rules as closely as I could but not sure if I succeeded. Hence the question mark in the title. I post the poems in the order written.

Eternity Waits -a set of haiku

You gave me your hand

roses bloomed in the desert

and I lost my mind

*****

River runs to sea

confluence waits eagerly

oblivion waits

*****

Tumultuous sea

dark sky embraces the waves

horizon waits dawn

*****

As gentle waves crash

hot sands wait the cooling touch

thirst unquenchable

*****

Eternity waits

roses fragrance desert nights

time has no meaning

Bridge of Love

The air was heavy with palpable anticipation

As we stepped gingerly into a journey unknown

Smooth sailing it was not, tumultuous and choppy

As we launched life’s catamaran on a rough sea

Two unique souls bound by a bridge of love

We set our own course of travel, far and wide

Today when the air is heavy with worries of a future unknown

My darling, with love as our light, will vanquish apprehension

Contradictions

A clear blue sky
Lacks definition.
Without a dark night,
For a bright day
There is no appreciation.
Without its spots
Moon won’t be as beautiful,
Road lacking few road bumps,
Journey is uneventful.
A blemish free life
There is no story to tell,
Without the past of Jean Valjean
Les Misérables won’t ring a bell.
Calm sea hides
Deep secrets in its bosom,
Vibrant nature in a moment
Wrecks havoc and destruction.
A world at peace,
Will it be boring?
Thought of violence
To appreciate peace,
It is depressing.
Even without appreciation
Rose will still bloom,
Even if no one looks
Beauty is not doomed.
A bipolar world
May be the norm,
Not an aberration.
Life is a saga
Full of contradictions.

Lament of a Little One Lost in Sea

a kids lament and sense of helplessness on being swept away to sea while fleeing the marauding hordes of rampaging killers

Lament of a Little One Lost in Sea

It’s dark all around me
Waves and swells of a rough sea
Pitch black bottomless darkness
Harkens to me
I came to this world
Without given a choice
Where I was born
Language I would speak
Who I do pray
Environment I be in
Always told
If I am good
All forgiving, all powerful, all merciful
Will take care of me
What wrong I had done
Few years I had on this earth
Abandoned now in my time of need
Told that across the sea
Lies the promised land
Where I would be free
Dead in the middle of night
Did we flee
Did not have a hand
When we left the only place
I knew as my home
I had no choice
As the marauding hordes
Calling themselves the ones
Chosen by god
Came rampaging
Hell bent on killing us all
I was promised that if I am quiet
On the boat sailing the sea
Once we land
I will be home safe and free
I was quiet, did not even cry
When the big waves swept me away
Away from my only hope
Never once I opened my mouth
Hoping for the almighty to take me home
It is darkness now all around me
Not a star up in the sky
They had chosen the darkest night
For a safe trip across the sea
The hand of darkness from the
Depth of the bottomless sea
Crawling up to take me down
I can not lose my faith in the almighty
Whom I have never seen
If there is life after death
And we do meet
I will have one question
Why was I chosen to leave
Before I was old enough
To lose my faith
In humanity
