Welfare has got a bad rep in modern american society. Welfare state, being on welfare, all these carry a stigma that is not well deserved. Many of the people who criticize the concept of welfare may have sometime or other taken the benefits offered by a welfare state one way or the other. One of the reason rich are getting richer is not always because they are smart ( though our POTUS elect claimed that he was smart because he found a way to manipulate the system), but because they have found a way to make the system work for them. That is also a sort of welfare given by the state to the rich by a different name. Welfare has got a bad reputation because of the misuse by people, both at the lower and upper stratum of people.
In this holiday season, at least for a little while, let us all forget about what divides us and join together in wishing well to everybody. Let this holiday season bring welfare to all. Let there be peace, let everybody be happy. We can always wish.
The year is slowly coming to an end. Soon we will be ringing in the new year. Hope for the rest of the year and for year to come, all around welfare of the society becomes paramount. With that hope, on week forty five of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I start my poem with “Welfare”.
