Searching for my muse

Deprived of my wings at birth,
May be the angels
were afraid, that
like Ikerus,
I shall attempt
to touch the sun,
and get burnt.

But I bargained
to set my
mind free,
soared high
and gained the
whole universe,
Imagination unbridled.

From unseen depths
of the ocean,
To places even
gods fear to tread,
I roam,
in search of
my elusive muse.

Alas, it’s a journey futile,
Travelogue continues,
Search goes on,
Certain that
once destination arrived,
the reward of discovery
shall silence my mind.

The last memories

when memories fail,

and I no longer recognize me,

take me to the sea shore,

and leave me there on the beach.

as the rays of the setting sun

sets the blue sky ablaze,

and the fingers of an approaching evening

tenderly closes my eyes one last time,

as the gentle waves of the sea

sing a haunting lullaby in my ears,

and the high tides cradle

and carry me to the comforting depth of the sea,

as this enchanting world slowly slips away,

let these last memories be engraved on my eyes.

and on the day of the new dawn,

may be in another little corner of the universe,

reincarnation, a new beginning.

when I open my eyes to start a new journey,

blessed with the last memories,

fortunate to be born in this earth,

this blue sky, the warm sands by the sea side,

endless expanse of a rolling sea,

where the setting sun goes down

every evening with a promise of

a new dawn,

let these last memories

be with me.

Scattered Snippets

I wrote a Hindi poem couple of days back and shared with my friends, many of them whose mother tongue is Hindi.  As none of them came after me with an ax, I dared to translate it to English and post today.  I am also attaching the original Hindi poem here. I am sure some of my readers, whose mother tongue is Hindi, may find fault with my Hindi.  My apologies.

Scattered Snippets

O’ love, cruel oppressor mine,
Ask me not
Where leads my path.
Home, I left for you
Heaven or hell
Does not matter now, Continue reading “Scattered Snippets”

Wide

Wide is the expanse of the universe
Insignificant we are, a mere dot
Do not even register in the big scheme
Endless journey, destination unknown

Wide open is this world of ours
Inviting all of us to share
Delightful offerings of nature
Enjoyment to everyone that cares

Wide rivers rushing down to merge
Into the bosom of wide oceans
Down will come the water as rain
Enriching the earth to be fertile again

Wide vistas encompass us everywhere
In our hearts why then have narrow feelings
Destruction of this only home of ours
Endangering the world, why to bear this curse

Wide in everything is of course not good
In too wide a midriff we will face grief
Diabetes may lurk in the shadows
Ending our lifestyle as we know it

Wide:Week Thirty Six of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

Today morning I had to get up early to take my dog Skooby out as he was restless. It was crisp and cold outside, about 50 F.  As I went out, I realized that though it was 6 AM, it was pitch dark.  The sky was clear and stars were burning bright.  As I looked up to the sky, a feeling of loneliness, a feeling of insignificance swept over me.  I was sort of happy and sad at the same time.  Happy to see the vast, wide expanse of the starlit sky and sad at the thought of how insignificant we are compared to the universe.

During the course of the day, the thought stayed in my mind off and on.  I did not have much time to dwell on that due to work load.  As I sat down to write my weekly post for Write Anything Wednesday now, I was again reminded about the dark, wide expanse of the sky.

So here I am.  I did not have to look far and wide for the starting word of my poem for week thirty six of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”.  Like the stars in the sky, the word was twinkling in my mind.  Let me go and explore the wide universe.  Maybe I will be able to write a poem wide enough to encompass all my readers.

Wonder

Second poem starting with”W” in the series of fifty two weeks journey with “W”.

Wonder why we are here
What is the purpose of life
Where did we come from
Where will we go
Wonder if we are alone in this universe
Why are we destroying this world of ours
Wonder what will be our legacy to progenies
Worry only death, destruction, famine or wars
While we debate and throw science to the winds
World slowly marches towards cataclysm
Wonderful world of ours one day
Will certainly be in ruins
Woefully unprepared to face reality
We march on to our final annihilation
Wondering all the time
Will we be ready for rehabilitation
World of ours is a
Worthy cause to fight for
Wonder if we all get together
Winning the war against ignorance
Words of enlightenment spread far and wide
Will we be able to reverse the tide
