Oh genie, where art thou

In a month’s time it’s time for the wedding
No, not mine, my old country I am visiting
But the happy occasion is turning to a bad dream
My better half wants to see me fit and thin
To the store she goes and shirts she brings
That are not for me but for people trim and slim
I can fit into those only in my dream
Every ounce of my body fat is shamed and screams
Oh, how I have dreamt of good food and sweets
Now it will only turn to month long fight to be fit
Madly I hope my bottle of water will turn to a magic drink
One gulp of the magic potion and voila, I shrink
With sinking hurt and a feeling of doom, the slim fit shirts I button
Over the protest of my tortured body and protruding belly button
Dread the day when one extra sweet and my shirt flies open
Oh genie, where art thou when I need the thinning boon
****************************************
Pants, that’s for another time
Time to get up from my rear end
And get my drink of water and lime
Lest I am stuck to the chair, unable to bend

Wait and Waiting:Week Thirty One of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

Wait!

We are always waiting for something in life. When will our wait be over? Want morning cup of coffee, wait till it is brewed. Want to go somewhere, wait till leave is approved and tickets are confirmed. Want to fall in love, wait till the person you are dreaming of somehow materializes. Want to go to college, apply and wait. Want a job, apply and wait for being called to interview.  Once the interview is over, wait for the rejection letter that will never come.  And once your sweetheart accepts the proposal and wedding  bells start ringing, wait for the day when…, well you must have got the gist.

So my dear readers, I will not make you wait for my word starting with “W” for week thirty one of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”.  The poem, for once, is ready to be posted as soon as I publish this blog.  Till next week then, adios (did Trump say that to El Presidente).

Week 7 of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with “W”

Write Anything Wednesday-March 16

I am two days behind schedule for this post but I am a strong believer in “better late than never”.  After a brief trip back to my country of birth, start to finish seventeen days of which I spent one full day  in transit waiting for my next flights and two full days of flying back and forth, I am finally back home. Of the twenty four hours of wait, I spent fifteen hours in two different airports during my return trip. Contrasts between those two airports are extremely telling with regards to the impact of oil wealth on the development in the middle east.

Now back to the question of what word to chose for week seven of my journey with the letter “W”. I had mentioned in a comment to my fellow blogger sparshsehgal (The World Beyond Sight), who is a wonderful poet, that I do not think beforehand what word to chose for my weekly journey, I just go on doing my normal thing and the word falls into place. This week I was so tired from my journey that my brain had a total shut down and refused to think.  So I was not even sure if I would be able to complete what i had started six weeks back.  Sparsh came to my rescue when he commented back that persistence is what counts.  I dragged my tired body that complained loudly and was reluctant to leave the comfort of a warm bed after a long and tedious forty four hour journey , door to door.  As I was writing this post, my mind was going back home and the wedding of my nephew that I attended. Voila! “wedding” starts with letter “W”, if I can write a poem starting with wedding and about wedding.

P.S.  Please visit Sparsh (The World Beyond Sight), not because he nominated me for a award that I have not seen yet nor for his help in getting me out of bed but because he is a wonderful poet.
