Warning

Warning clouds rumble on the horizon
Anxious citizens play wait and see game
Rich are getting ready to get richer
Never in doubt about the outcome
Insecure dreamers dread doubtful future
Not knowing what will happen with their lives
Greed is getting ready to trump good for ever

Warning to all of us who chose to ignore
Are we now ready to pay the price
Risk of a nation divided by ugly vitriolics
Novelty of change will wear out soon
Immigrants are bad unless wives of POTUS elect
Narcissist nabob will make the people dance
Great hyperbole will trump common sense

Warning message to those who did not care
All’s not lost yet if you dare to oppose
Russian puppet shows ruining your life
Now is the time to come together
Insure that you won’t be rolled over
Need to be vigilant to preserve hard won rights
Get ready to trump their evil designs

Warning:Week Forty Seven of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

We are always warned by somebody or other about something or other.  Warning labels are part of our daily life.  We have warning about our health, our finances, our education, our retirement, etc., etc., etc.  We are so dependant on warning as if without warning our life can not go on.  However we sometimes do not get any warning about some of the most important things about our lives.  The recent passing away of Alan Thicke is a warning to all of us regarding the fleeting nature of life.  I am sure the people of California would be more than happy to get enough early warning regarding impending earthquakes.

However sometimes even with warning signs flashing, people either tend to ignore at their own peril or find it hard to believe.  Such was the case of the recent election in USA.  Though there were plenty warning signs that the results may not be what majority of the polls were predicting, lots of people either were complacent or chose to ignore those warnings.  Now it is time to pay the price for ignoring those warning signs.  The events of last month and half are sending enough warning signs of things that are shaping up to revoke and repeal many of the progressive achievements of last few years.  Accepting the results of the election does not mean that we will have to acquiesce meekly to all the rhetorics that are flying around.  Acceptance does not mean to be resigned to one’s fate.  We need to stay engaged in the process, pay heed to the warning signs and also warn and educate regarding the perils of abject surrender.

As I an marching towards the completion of my yearlong journey with the letter “W”, I am realizing many of my Write Anything Wednesday posts are taking a subtle political tinge.  May be I will take some rest at the end of the year and regroup my thoughts.  Maybe this post is a warning to me that I need to open up more to other ideas.  Whatever it may be, for week forty seven of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I start my poem with the word ” Warning”.  And my dear readers, I am warning you, the poem definitely has a political tinge.

Weapons

Weapons of mass destruction
Ever lost in the desert sands
All we have left are the lives lost
People who will never come home
Only those benefited who spread the lie
Never thought of the damages they did
Soul searching not their creed

Weapons of every kind has blood in them
Everyone is aware of that
Anyone who says weapons do not kill
People kills, knows that without weapons
Order of magnitude of killing
Never will be the same
Sanity and peace may result without them

Weapons line the pockets of unscrupulous few
Eager to make profits with blood of others
All is fair in love and war they say
Preaching the mantra of profit
Ominous cult of mercenaries
Nations that preach peace armed to the teeth
Silently eyeing where to start next conflagration

Weapons of love, Cupid’s arrows piercing
Enemy hearts to melt
Always wonder what it would be like
Peace and love in the world
Obsession with weapons forgotten
Nary a killing, no more wars
Somber thoughts, impractical

Weapons:Week Forty Six of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

Those who defends the freedom of possessing guns are fond of reminding people that guns don’t kill people, people do.  Really?  From mythological time to present, it is weapons that has been killing people.  In modern times, weapons are big business.  States are major players in selling arms and weapons.  Everywhere around the globe we can see the devastation and mayhems that’s been created by weapons.  Stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction  can wipe civilization as we know of few times over.  Just imagine if all the resources that are being spent on weapons would have been utilized on development programs, this world of ours would have been a paradise.  But because of proliferation of weapons, all around the globe we have warlike situations prevailing.

All throughout recorded history, wars fought in the name of religion resulted in deaths to millions.  Followers of religions that preach peace and love did not and do not hesitate to kill non believers in the name of religion.  If there would have been no weapons, we would not have seen such devastation.  All God’s creation have been given inherent weapons to defend and feed themselves but no weapons to kill unnecessarily.  We humans call ourselves to be God’s best creation.  God has not given us weapons to kill others.  Alas, we are given a brain that we misused to invent weapons to kill and dominate others.  If we really would have utilized our brains properly, we would have invented weapons to spread love and peace, not death and destruction.

It may be a wishful  thinking, but we can always hope.  Maybe one day we will see the light and will find mythological arrows of Cupid to spread universal love. With that hope in mind, on week forty six of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I start my poem with the word “Weapons”.

Peace and love to all my dear readers in this season of joy.

Everybody be hale and hearty
Let us all be happy
Frolicking friends and family
All around us

Enjoyable with reason as our beacon

Live life with dignity
Fear not the changes on the horizon
Anger, arguments and aloofness

Welfare:Week Forty Five of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

Welfare has got a bad rep in modern american society.  Welfare state, being on welfare, all these carry a stigma that is not well deserved.  Many of the people who criticize the concept of welfare may have sometime or other taken  the benefits offered by a welfare state one way or the other.  One of the reason rich are getting richer is not always because they are smart ( though our POTUS elect claimed that he was smart because he found a way to manipulate the system), but because they have found a way to make the system work for them.  That is also a sort of welfare given by the state to the rich by a different name.  Welfare has got a bad reputation because of the misuse by people, both at the lower and upper stratum of people.

In this holiday season, at least for a little while, let us all forget about what divides us and join together in wishing well to everybody.  Let this holiday season bring welfare to all.  Let there be peace, let everybody be happy.  We can always wish.

The year is slowly coming to an end.  Soon we will be ringing in the new year. Hope for the rest of the year and for year to come, all around welfare of the society becomes paramount. With that hope, on week forty five of my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I start my poem with “Welfare”.

Welcome

Welcome to the land of the free and home of the brave
Enter at your own risk and be on your guard
Lest you be rounded up, imprisoned and deported
Can you feel the rise of intolerance and incivility
Once where there was promise of freedom and liberty Continue reading “Welcome”

Welcome:Week Forty Four of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

The land of the free and the home of the brave does not feel too welcoming at this time.  Lady Liberty does not seems to be extending her hands any more to the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free.  Rather the poor, huddled masses of the country were hoodwinked by the promise of erecting a wall to keep other poor, huddled masses out from this country.  I wholeheartedly support a fair immigration policy, a process that is legal.  It is not fair that every few years an amnesty be granted to people who are not legal residents.  That’s a mockery of the law.  But what stops the elected legislature to make a law to take care of the issue once for all.  Is it because without those immigrants, the life of the rich as they know it won’t be the same.  Will making a fair immigration law severely impact the lifestyle of the rich and the powerful?

But I digress.  I am not feeling very welcoming for last couple of weeks.  Just as I think that the nastiness of the election is past and we can slowly go back to be normal again, there comes a tweet from the POTUS elect.  Like a pouting child who always thinks that he/she has been misjudged or mistreated, every single event that pierces his thin skin becomes a rallying point for his tweet and a battlecry for his hard nosed followers to come rallying for him.  Those tweets are not allowing the country to heal.  Some silence from his tweets are most welcome.  He has won the election and he is most welcome to govern.  That’s his prerogative, he is welcome to it. Just stop this circus.

People are fearful of changes, what change would bring.  I think one should welcome change but needs to be on guard to ensure that rights are not trampled.  On that note, for week forty four of  my fifty two weeks journey with the letter “W”, I chose WELCOME as the starting word of my poem.  Hope my dear readers will welcome the poem.

Wake

Wake me up from this bad dream when
All is over and once again civility reigns
Kinder, gentle spirits abound
Everybody gets along together and celebrates

Wake of this great wave of revulsion has propelled
Angry outbursts, spewing venoms of hatred
Kaleidoscope of vibrant colors shattered
Engulfing anxiety weakening inner spirit

Wake for the funeral of decency hope it is not
Anger will subside and sanity prevail
Keeping people united is the order of the day
Enemies of democracy must be kept at bay

Wake:Week Forty Three of My Fifty Two Weeks Journey with the Letter ” W”

We wake up in the morning, dreams over and it is a new day.  Unfortunately, this presidential election and its aftermath is like a bad dream that is not getting over.  We have made our bed and now we must lie on it.  We have every right to protest, but protest within the law.  We must be on guard to protect our rights, not get incited by words and deeds of the hate mongers.  We have every right to fight to change the laws that are not just.  Those who proclaim that the constitution is sacrosanct, we can remind them that the sanctity had been violated twenty seven times with twenty seven amendments.  Things change.  People make a country.  If the people so desire, then things can change.

For those who think that the president elect is the biggest calamity that could have happened, take heart.  The same constitution has limited his time in the office.  If people so desire, they have the power in their hands to change the situation in the coming elections.  This is not a wake for the funeral of democracy, rather this is a clarion call for the complacent voters to action.  Some fanatic extreme right wing fringe groups have ridden the wake of the groundswell of frustration about politics as usual. It is the duty of all of us, genuine conservatives as well as liberals to ensure that this small vocal minority does not hijack the spirit of this great country.  If we allow that to happen, then we will certainly be failing in our duty of a citizen.  We may have our disagreements, but name calling is not going to help our cause.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  Let us be thankful that we are still able to wake up to a morning full of hope compared to many others who could not even go to bed for fear of being killed by bombs or gunfire.  Let us be thankful that we have our rights for peaceful protest, let us be thankful that even though we may be down, we are not out. Let us wake up from this bad dream and celebrate Thanksgiving in the right spirit.  Towards that hope, I continue on my journey and start my poem with “Wake” for week forty three of my fifty two weeks journey with W.

Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers.
