Last Request to a Long Lost Friend

Cat and mouse game
I don’t want to play
A long embrace unwanted
So please don’t overstay
My long lost friend
You are neither
Defied nor deified
Invited you are not
But futile to resist
Your inevitable visit
So here is my last request
Don’t make me suffer
A long embrace
Pains of a long
Drawn out goodbye
I will welcome you
With open outstretched hands
Let it be a game of
Instant mortal combat
You the declared winner
I say adios
And depart
Till we meet
Somewhere,
Someplace again

Poetry is my passion. I am not a methodical writer. I have no set topics to write about. What I feel, perceive, think about, I will like to share in this blog. I open my mind to the world. Like the weather, sometimes my poems are cloudy, sometimes stormy. I always like to see sunshine streaming through the leaves of trees, so I hope I can share some of those sunshine with my readers.

  1. You’re right. This is an interesting take on death. Thanks for suggesting it. I don’t get around the blogosphere as much as I’d like. This poem reads like one sib telling the other that it’s ok to not drag things out– it’s ok to die. My co-worker’s wife passed away after a 12 yr battle with MS. He told her it was ok for her to go, that she didn’t need to cling to life for him and she passed a few minutes later. This poem reminded me of that. He was in the office today telling the story.

    1. No intention to play with emotions. Some recent events made me visit the issue of death in couple of my recent poems. Incidentally I realized while reading your comment that the first poem that I wrote after a gap of few decades was also on the same topic. May be I am fascinated by the subject. As for me personally, when the time comes, I will like to just drop dead.
