Web of lies that I spun
Entrapping people in its deadly grip
Berating my enemies to death
Web I spread far and wide
Ensnaring my victims
Bleeding then slowly till they die
Web world wide helped me spread
Empire that I could not have dreamt
By means ethical to grow full to the brim
Web so devious and bombastic
Empty with false promises trumpeted
Bewildered poor souls bamboozled
Web of mine is attracting new victims
Encircling like a vulture I survey
Bedazzled fools coming to play
Web so strong I weave
Enter at your own risk if you dare
Beware, once in, exit closed forever
Web of steel it is not
Entrapped in it one day I may
But till then time to enjoy and make hay
Astounding. Am I just imagining it or did you include that word on the fourth stanza to point a definitive finger? Haha. Either way, this was powerful in its capture of cynicism and the precise shots at the process. Also, I’m from the Philippines and this poem also applies to a whole shebang of my misguided countrymen.
