Fistful of Stars Covered by Dark Clouds : Collection of Five Short Poems

Wrote this collection of five short poems first in my mother tongue, Axomiya(Assamese), couple of weeks back.  Translated these to English today with the Axomiya version following.  The first poem, titled If Death be a Lover was posted on my blog on March 16, 2018.

If death be a lover
And grants only one wish
Will make death promise
To embrace and take me whole

Not break me up
Piece by piece
*****
Deadly serpent embrace
Darkens
Fragrant magnolia’s heart
Unwitting victim of
Her bewitching smile
Passion unbridled
Heart on fire
Life today
An unsolved puzzle
*****
If I look back today
Path traversed
Litany of mistakes past
Regrets none
Long journey ahead
Ray of hope
Still lights the heart
*****
Nothing more to say
It’s now time to listen
If you ask
Experience of life
A pearl picked
Never ever
Lose your faith
*****
Dark clouds cover
A fistful of stars
Wait for the new moon
When crushed heart
Of depressed lover
Search for
A flicker of light
Healing touch
*****

Poetry is my passion. I am not a methodical writer. I have no set topics to write about. What I feel, perceive, think about, I will like to share in this blog. I open my mind to the world. Like the weather, sometimes my poems are cloudy, sometimes stormy. I always like to see sunshine streaming through the leaves of trees, so I hope I can share some of those sunshine with my readers.

  1. Very meaningful and well expressed. I think all of us pray that we should be taken away whole and not piece by piece. But God only knows what is in store for us. We have to take life as it comes. Regards.

    1. And what good that does to you in going forward in your life?
If you confess in front of the priest and God absolve you of all your sins, then why not having a heart to heart talk with people who were hurt by your mistakes and let it out of your heart?

      1. Yes,that is good but that is a result of my regret. If I have no regret, I ignore the situation. I think I am missing your meaning. If something happens that you cannot make amends for, then accept forgiveness and get on wth your life. We would probably agree with that statement. 😀

  2. I have liked all the poems very much. They all sound musical and have great imagery. I especially like the wish of death not breaking you in pieces. You have written this in a very beautiful way. The other poems also contain lovely images like the serpent entering the magnolia’s heart. Really, everything here is beautifully expressed.

  3. I also like that you have included the original poems in your mother tongue which I can’t understand, but others surely will. A language is just a reflection of a whole culture and identity that should never be lost but cherished.

    1. My mother tongue is Assamese ( Axomiya ), a major Indian language spoken in the north eastern state of Assam in India. In addition to English, which is my second language, I sometimes ( though rarely ) write in Hindi. recently I translated couple of my poems to Bengali as per request of few of my friends but I do not consider myself to be good enough to write either in Hindi and Bengali though I can speak them well enough. It’s surprising to me that some ideas / thoughts feel better in one language compared to other. I think it is a blessing that I can roam around the wonders of multiple languages.

    2. I know that you are fluent in both German and Spanish and must be fluent in English, so you definitely enjoy the advantage of being multilingual. I did study German for two years in college but forgotten everything after decades of non-use.

      1. My mother tongue is Catalan, Spanish is my second language, English my third and German my forth, though I think my command of these other two languages is the same because they are my work tools and also new cultures I have integrated in my life. I also know a bit of Italian, French and Portuguese because they belong to the same family as Catalan and Spanish. One language brings another one and so on. We interconnect them all in our brain and that is pluringualism.

      1. Sorry, but someone who writes poems is already and, by definition, a poet. If you and I and any of us just think of a poet in terms of the brilliant works of poets like T.S.Eliot, Sylvia Plath and a few others that I personally love, we would never ever start to create anything. Poetry, like any other art, is just about doing what your heart tells you. If it is your passion it will be good. It will be beauty and truth.

      2. True. I stand corrected.
Had a very minor foot surgery yesterday, partially restricted to be at home for next couple of days. It will be a good opportunity to catch up on some reading, though I do not like the restriction.
