Fear looking at the mirror
The lies, the deceptions
Stories that were told
Pain scarred heart
Masked by a smile
Reflecting back
Every line, every crease
Narratives of years past
Face unrecognised
Looks back in redicule
Burrow deep
Trying to remove layers
Clouding the face
Once recognised
Reflecting innocence
Long subdued
Hidden but not lost
A child’s ebullience
Joy unfettered
A happy face
To reflect back
Look at the mirror
Smile and be at peace
Again
I love your “mirror” poems. Yes, we are the scars that make up the landscapes of our bodies, hearts and souls. I like that you unmask the facade and show the real inside before the mirror. You need to correct “Looks back in redicule” and write “ridicule” instead. I like the optimistic ending of the poem. Good job!
